Alora
A traditional white washed village (pueblo) situated with
excellent communication links including a railway station,
45 minutes from the airport and within 1 hours drive from
many of the popular coastal resorts of the Costa del Sol
.
The Old centre of the town still retains a typical Spanish
ambiance with the narrow, some very steep streets lined
with old white washed Spanish houses (some animals are
still kept under the old village houses) it makes an adventure
just to walk around and explore. There are many tapas bars
and restaurants where you can sample the local atmosphere
and cuisine or simply sit in the either of the plazas and
witness what the old real Spain is really like. The locals
are very friendly and all but two of the shops are run
by Spaniards. Local produce is always fresh with a choice
of green grocers, butchers and fishmongers to choose from,
alternatively there is a large supermarket on the edge
of the town.
There is spectacular scenery and impressive mountain ranges
that surround Alora. To the west Sierra
Aqua, the north Sierra Huma and the gateway to and through Alora is
dominated by the course of River Guadalhorce and its broad
valley bottom (La vega). Alora is a poplar
area for citrus, olives, almonds and other varieties of
fruit trees which add an evergreen lushness to the landscape.

El Chorro
Situated
just 12 km from Alora, El Chorro is
one of the most impressive natural areas. The pass of Los
Gaitanes is a canyon over a hundred meters deep, where
the river Guadlhorce has cut through the various layers
of rock. Perched on the walls is the Caminito de Rey a
small narrow footpath around 7km long. This is an area
of outstanding beauty with the most breathtaking scenery
and rock formations. For those seeking a adrenalin rush
for rock climbing, this place is hard to beat.
Drive through El Chorro and you will reach the “Malaga
Lake district” When you first see these beautiful
turquoise waters and surrounding countryside it will be
an experience that is unforgettable. Although these lakes
are actually man made they have created an oasis to enjoy.
Popular with the Spanish at weekends the weekdays offer
a time when a visit will offer a more tranquil and relaxing
excursion as far fewer people are there. Enjoy swimming
and simply enjoying the magnificent location. There are
a number of restaurants to enjoy a meal after your day
at a truly unforgettable place.
El Chorro also has its own
seasonal campsite set
in natural Pine woods that lead down to the lakes edge.

Marbella and Puerto Banus
Marbella
is an hours drive away - an upbeat and stylish resort with
many designer shops and a lively night scene.
Known for the hang out of the rich
and famous. Puerto
Banus is worth at least one visit
in your lifetime! The marina has some very expensive
yachts - take out a second mortgage if you intend to
have lunch here!

Granada and the Sierra Navada
The historic city of Granada is a two hour drive from
Alora making it suitable for a day trip. Probably the most
famous tourist attraction of Granada is
the Alhambra . A visit to this must be pre-booked as entrance
on the day is unlikely. There are many other attractions
to Granada especially the stunning Cathedral and the many other churches
and museums. Granada traditionally serves a small tapa
with each drink.
Sierra
Nevada is the mountain range close to Granada and
has the highest mountain on mainland Spain - El Mulacen
at 3500m. The Sierra
Nevada is a very popular
European Skiing destination and a winter stay at Finca
Las Rosas could easily accommodate a day of skiing.

Sevilla
Sevilla is the essence of Andalucia with its Moorish
palaces, majestic streets and the best tapas bars in Spain
. Again a 2 hour drive from Alora makes this very easy
for a one day excursion or an overnight stay to take in
more of this wonderful city.

The costa del sol - Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
The Costa
del Sol has many beaches - to many to mention
here as they range from the quiet and secluded beaches
such as those nearer to Nerja to the more busy and package
holiday destinations such as Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
Both these destinations can be reached by train from Alora
and changing at Malaga .
Torremolinos is probably the most visited
of the costa resorts and in high season dense with people,
the beaches carpeted with sunbeds. There is a very good
water park here for a great day out with the children as
an alternative to the beech.
Fuengirola has a similar atmosphere
to Torremolinos during the peak hioliday season. The Spaniards
enjoy holidaying here too. Fuengirola also
has its own water park and a very good Zoo that is as much
about conservation of species as it is a tourist attraction.

Malaga
One of the best kept secrets of the Costa del Sol . Undiscovered
by many this wonderful majestic city has it all, history,
culture, museums, castle, cuisine,(especially fish) clean
quiet beaches, very rarely even in the peak season hearing
any other nationality but Spanish. It is great to hop on
and off one of the open guide buses or to take a slower
pace around the town in a horse and trap.
There is an abundance
of beautiful shops, interesting little streets and even
a fairly good football team. Malaga can be reached directly
by train from Alora making this an ideal place to enjoy
a day out without having to commute by car. At
Christmas the City centre is adorned with a spectacular
display of lights - the best we have ever seen!

around the many side streets browsing through the local
shops. Ronda is famous for its impressive
gorge as well as its working bullring that can be explored.
Renowned for its leather ware Ronda is
an ideal place to purchase some very impressive leather
goods at reasonable prices.

Antiquerea and El Torcal
A 45 minute drive from Alora, Antequera is a pleasant
and bustling Spanish town with its high street lined with
bars and shops. Historic sights range from Moorish ruins,
fine churches and caves.
When visiting Antequera it is
advisable to take in the sight of
El Torcal - a natural park with striking rock
formations of tall limestone pinnacles balancing precariously
in a setting that has been 200 million years in the making.
