Below is just a selection of things of interest
to our guests. Spain, Andalucia, the Costa del Sol
and even Alora itself has far too many things to do and
of interest to be able to list them all here so this page
is just a taster of what is on offer. There are plenty
of good guide books you can buy before your arrival and
we have left a couple for you to browse at Finca de las
Rosas. You should at least have one on hand such
as the excellent 'Rough Guide to Andalucia' if you are
thinking of exploring off the beaten track and a flick
through its pages before you arrive will give you an idea
that a week or two's holiday here simply will not be near
enough time to explore even a fraction of what Andalucia
has to offer. If
you have children then you can be guaranteed a great time
simply by packing a picnic and setting off for one of the
many beaches along the Costa del Sol or the water parks
of Torremolinos and Fuengirola.
If this is your first time to Andalucia then we envy you
greatly as you have so much to discover!
Flights & Car Hire
The nearest airport to fly into is Malaga and Finca Las Rosas is approximately 45 minutes from this airport by car. Granada airport often has cheaper flights than Malaga but is a a longer drive of about an hour and half.
Both airports have car hire and the possibility of flying into one airport and flying out of the other is available providing your car hire allows this. Easy Jet seems to be the most popular budget airline for Malaga and Ryan Air for Granada. A good way to check and compare price and availability is to use a Price Comparison site such as skyscanner.net . Similarly for car hire we have found the best deals by using a comparison site such as travelsupermarket.com whose car hire prices can end up cheaper than going direct to the providers site and will probably always be cheaper than booking by telephone or leaving it until you arrive at the airport (not recommended as Malaga airport car hire is often fuilly booked 24 hours prior to needing it).
A car is a must unless you have somebody to pick you up from the airport and ferry you around, although people who have a good knowledge of the area will find it straight forward to get from the airport to Alora via Malaga centre by train. However, again once at Malaga you will need transport from the station to Finca Las Rosas and thereafter to fully enjoy your stay and to shop for the basic/essential amenities.
We do provide clear directions to get from the Airport to Finca las Rosas but if you want somebody to meet you at the airport (or closer to the villa) and follow them to the villa then we can give you the name and telephone number of people on hand who will do this for a fee.

Alora's Castillo Arabe
(Arab Castle)
This definitely is the main land mark of Alora its silhouette can be seen
dominating the hill top on arrival. Dating back to the 15 th century its origins
are Phoenician and the Romans fortified its ruins. Subsequently, the Arabs
transformed it into a residence and fortress. Inside the castle is a pointed
horseshoe arch which is unique in the western world and was declared a national
monument in 1931. From outside there is the most spectacular view point over
the Guadalhorce Valley .
Opening hours: Monday to Sunday 9-13hrs; 14-18hrs
Although during your stay as Finca de Las Rosas you will want to take advantage
of the abundance of places to visit that exists
outside of Alora, a day spent exploring the town will be well worth your
while. You may even be lucky enough to be in Alora when one of its fiestas
is scheduled. Alora also has a museum of local history (Alora
dates back to Roman times), the second largest church in the Malaga province,
an open air swimming pool, restaurants, tapas bars, a small cinema, fiestas
and parades throughout the year and even a 24/7 medical centre!
